Angel Building

My daughters and I painted the first pair of these. They then decided to paint another pair on the other side of the building and then last summer we had a camp on the property and the camp participants painted a third pair. I’m pretty sure there are a few more in the works.

The wings have become a favorite spot to take pictures and quite honestly it takes my breath away when people of all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicity stand in front of them. Soulful Prairies carries the message that we are all valuable and quite honestly that we are all angels. These wings remind me of this on a regular basis.

1830's Log Cabin

The history in the bones of this building take you back in time. We have intentionally kept the simplistic beauty of the cabin.

the barn

Large windows run down both long sides of the barn. Open the doors to a gorgeous view of the farm and in the evenings you have a front row seat for a breath taking sunset.

the arena

The arena is an 80 x 160 foot space with a bricked entrance and a sand base floor. The ceiling is a white fabric that allows light through and creates a bright cheerful feeling. There is a wood loft at the front of the building that has chairs, tables, a chandelier and hay loft doors that can be opened. Windows run down both long sides of the building and there are large sliding doors at either end. We keep all the windows open through the warmer months to give an outdoor feeling. This is the place where I work with clients, hold my groups and parts of my retreats, work with horses and ride. We have hosted events here and on occasion a band for fund raisers. This space has a peaceful happy feel to it.

the main house

This house was created with hunted salvage and much love. The goal of each space is comfort and calming beauty. The details offer the visitors a playground of sites and textures and unique treasures to explore. The Guest Suites and Pasture View Room on the lower level of the Main House are available when hosting a private retreat at Soulful Prairies.

bees

In the process of bringing Soulful Prairies back to its natural and native state, we brought bees to the prairie. A local beekeeper now manages two hives on the property for us. The native plants, flowers, and gardens are flourishing thanks to the bees’ hard work. We are also able to enjoy honey and other bee products that are created from our own Soulful Prairies’ bees. Don’t forget to grab a bottle of honey during your next visit!

Hops Garden

This is one of those projects that we have researched and poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into with little success. As always, it is important to remember to be aware and pivot when something is no longer bringing joy. Next we plan to plant sunflowers!

Peace Pole

Soulful Prairies is honored to be recognized by World Citizen Peace as an International Peace Site. This designation reflects our commitment to nurturing peace within ourselves and others, serving our community, protecting the environment, respecting diversity, and living as responsible citizens of the world. Here, peace grows in harmony with the land and all who share it.

vegetable garden

This garden was created for the Bruce family to grow vegetables for family and friends. Each year I have struggled keeping up with the weeds while balancing with other life challenges. Allowing the teachings from these experiences has led me to the idea that raised beds would create more success. In spite of the weeds, the garden has supplied us with fresh asparagus for the past seven years.

horse pasture

Five acres are fenced for the horses. One of our goals is to keep the environment natural, while giving the horses room to move and stretch.

Labyrinth

A group of volunteers and loads of salvaged bricks made this project possible. Walking this heart shaped grassy path brings a grounded mindfulness to those who walk it.

Waving bear

Shortly after a prairie burn, which is done to improve the quality of the plants and soil, I was riding my horse, Keebler on the path. For no apparent reason Keebler put the brakes on and seemed quite worried. After dismounting, I looked up and from this vantage point I could see the problem. An old tree trunk burned perfectly, now resembled a waving bear which set off quite the scare in Keebler.

Viewing Station

The viewing station is one of the original structures that was here before we purchased the property. The top had weeds up to your eyeballs. With some help we were able to clean it up and lay down limestone. A family and friend project created the path stone walkway from the barn to the stairs. Finally, after peeling back the many layers of weeds, the supporting stone wall was revealed and yes, it needed to be tuck-pointed. It has been a labor of love that created this favorite space to relax, toast a momentous occasion and watch a good sunset.
